Microneedling has become an extremely popular skin procedure across the world to target dark spots, visible pores and wrinkles.
Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure that uses fine needles to make miniscule, evenly-spaced micro-injuries to the skin. This triggers the body’s wound healing process, stimulates healthy surrounding tissue to repair the damage, and brings the skin back to its healthiest looking state.
This repair process helps reduce the appearance of dark spots, wrinkles, sagging, and texture irregularities such as acne pitting or stretch marks. Recent studies have proven that Microneedling is effective in targeting the melanocytes responsible for melanin overproduction, which means you can achieve brighter, more even-toned skin.

Post-Microneedling Treatment: decrease of side effects
Right after Microneedling at 1.25mm
Subject received one Microneedling treatment all over face. On one side of the face, Pro Restore was applied prior to Microneedling, was used during Microneedling, and applied Post Microneedling. On the other side of the face, a control conventional Hyaluronic Acid serum for Microneedling was used.
Who is not a candidate for Microneedling?
Microneedling is generally safe for all skin types, but those who are pregnant, have a history of eczema, psoriasis, herpes, diabetes and other chronic conditions should consult with their physician for approval.
Does it hurt?
It can be uncomfortable in certain areas of your face. However, the treatment is fairly quick, and your professional skin therapist will work with you and your skin, progressing the treatment over time.
How many treatments do i need?
With any advanced skin treatment, a series of treatments is recommended for long lasting, visible results. It will always depend on your unique skin and goals, but generally, a series of 3 – 6 Microneedling treatments is recommended, having them every 4 – 6 weeks.
How much downtime is there?
There’s no significant downtime with this minimally invasive procedure. You may experience some mild redness and irritation for 2 – 3 days after Microneedling, but this will subside quickly. When receiving Dermalogica’s PRO Microneedling treatment PRO Restore is included as part of your aftercare program. This advanced formula helps minimize downtime and skin recovery with enhanced results. It’s vital you follow the post-treatment home care routine provided to you by your professional skin therapist – this is as important as the treatment itself for maintaining and enhancing your results.
Can’t i just use an ‘at home’ roller for the same effect? At-home Microneedling tools may consist of either a stamp studded with tiny metal spikes of different lengths or a roller (for “Dermarolling”.) Dermatologists agree that these may not bring you the advanced results you’d get from a professional treatment. Why? Primarily because the devices built for “at-home” use have shorter needle depths that vary between 0.1 mm-0.3mm and are designed mainly to enhance skin-care ingredient absorption, not create the ‘micro-injuries’ needed for skin remodeling. In contrast, professional Microneedling tools use needles ranging from 0.5mm-3mm that perforate the skin at deeper levels and require advanced professional qualifications and training to deliver safe and effective treatment. Microneedling should only be administered by a qualified professional in a sterile environment. Here’s what to expect during a Pro Microneedling treatment
Most people require little down time if any. You may see redness for a few days after the procedure which is a natural response. Your Professional Skin Therapist will review your post procedure steps including how and when to use your PRO Restore and what to avoid for the next 24-72 hours. Results will be visible within two weeks. It’s recommended to book a series of PRO Microneedling treatments 4-6 weeks apart for optimal improvements and skin maintenance.
Dermalogica’s PRO Nanoinfusion treatment delivers advanced professional results for skin Nanoinfusion goes by various other names such as Microchanneling, Nano infusion or Nano exfoliation. It is a non-invasive procedure that involves the use of a pen style modality and nano-tips – not needles as the name might suggest. It uses very tiny cones formed of silicone or stainless steel that do not penetrate the skin but do help with resurfacing and product infusion.
Nanoinfusion can also improve skin texture, boost hydration as well as address signs of premature skin ageing. The most immediate, visible change in the skin is a hydrating glow. Dermalogica has always been committed to skin health and we believe that regular resurfacing is crucial to accelerate cell turnover and renewal rates. This is why we opted for peel treatments that are more frequent and less invasive, rather than those that push the skin to the point of severe inflammation and possible scarring. Additionally, we’re constantly looking for ways to give the skin therapist the flexibility to create completely customized treatments for a range of skin conditions.
With this in mind, the skin health experts at The International Dermal Institute and Dermalogica developed Pro Power Peel; a fully customizable collection of peels and our fastest and strongest peel yet. Pro Power Peel redefines the peel experience— it allows you to create bespoke peels, giving clients a different, customized peel with each treatment.
MA consultation is obligatory as also a patch test. A test of the peels to be used has to be tested at least 24 hours before treatment. The skin is analysed to make sure it is in a good condition to be treated because if not, the client would have to prepare the skin using home use products or have a Proskin 60 to remove any comedones present.
Post procedure guidelines will be explained in detail and strict instructions are to be followed for a couple of days after the treatment. Pro power peels are suggested to be done as multiple sessions depending on the skin target. They can also be applied every 2 – 4 weeks.
Chemical peels work by removing the outer layers of skin. The depth of the peel ranges from superficial to deep and is determined by the chemical agent used, the concentration, among other factors that will be discussed. Following a chemical peel, the deeper layers of the skin will respond by regenerating new skin and by increasing the production of collagen. The result is a look that’s smoother and more youthful.
Dermalogica Peels are safe and effective and performed by one of our trained professionals.
Whether you’re using an at-home peel or getting a professional peel, you can minimize your skin’s downtime afterward by practicing these expert tips:
Wash your face with cool water. Warm or hot water might not feel as good as cool or cold water, which can help soothe post-peel sensations.
Moisturize and hydrate. Since peels can temporarily compromise your skin’s protective barrier, it’s important to reinforce that barrier with a medium-to-thick moisturizer. Also, drink more water to help avoid dehydration, which could make your skin feel tight.
Apply sunscreen with SPF30 or more. Your skin is more delicate after a peel, so avoid direct sun exposure, which can lead to even more visible signs of skin aging. If you must be exposed, use a Broad Spectrum physical sunscreen.
Avoid strenuous workouts, dry saunas and steam rooms. Increased blood circulation to the face can intensify warming, tingling, itching, redness or other uncomfortable side effects on freshly peeled skin. Skip such activities on the day you use a peel.
Don’t over-exfoliate. Peels are maximum-strength exfoliants, so you don’t need to use a separate exfoliant (like a scrub, brush or exfoliating cleanser) within 3-4 days of your peel. Over-exfoliating can lead to more redness or sensitivity, so wait until your skin feels up to it.
Aftercare products recommended on the night of the Peel. Rinse face with cool water and cleanse with Ultra Calming Cleanser, moisturise with Barrier Defense Booster and Calm Water Gel. You will find that you will want to moisturise more frequently as the days go on because the skin will feel dryer and possible flaking may occur. Use Skin Perfect Primer SPF30 or Invisible Physical Defense SPF30 moisturiser for daytime protection.
Once your skin feels “back to normal” after a peel, it’s generally considered OK to resume your normal skin care regimen. For more personalized advice, ask your professional skin therapist how to incorporate peels into your lifestyle. NEW! Rapid Reveal Peel is a professional-grade at-home peel that helps reveal brighter, healthier skin in just minutes a week.
